Plant Type: Forb

Flower Color: pink, red

Edibility: The young leaves are said to be edible, but mildly bitter and astringent. I have only tried eating a bit once, and though it tasted good, it seemed to burn my mouth a little, but not uncomfortably. Sources say that the pith is edible and sweet.

Medicinal: The tea has beneficial properties.

Other Notes: The plant is so named because it is usually the first flower to appear after a fire, if it is present in the area. This may be because it has deep roots which can escape fire damage.
